SON 250 Vascular Sonography Lecture: 1 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2
Pending State Approval
This course provides an in-depth study of the anatomy and pathology of the vascular system. Topics include peripheral arterial, peripheral venous, and cerebrovascular disease testing. Upon completion, students should be able to identify normal vascular anatomy and recognize pathology of the vascular system.
Course is typically offered in Fall. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) Upon completion of the course, students should be able to do the following:
- Explain the importance of hydrostatic pressure in the human circulatory system.
- Describe the components of Poiseuille’s Law, Bernoulli’s Principle, and Ohm’s Law.
- Describe the different types of non-invasive testing, including Doppler and plethysmography.
- Explain the effects stenosis, occlusion, and collateral flow have on cerebrovascular and arterial hemodynamics.
- Describe normal and abnormal waveforms and what can be concluded from them.
- Describe commonly seen diseases and abnormalities found within the vascular system.
