OST 122 Office Computations

Lecture: 2 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3


This course introduces fundamental mathematical and computational skills necessary for success in an office environment. Emphasis will be placed on practical applications of mathematics in office-related tasks such as payroll calculations, inventory calculations, discounts, and markups, as well as financial calculations. Upon completion, students should be able to solve a wide variety of mathematical problems encountered in an office.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
Students should be able to do the following upong completion of the course:

  1. Perform calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  2. Convert fractions, decimals, and whole numbers to other formats.
  3. Define the purpose of banking documents, including deposits, checks, and reconciliations.
  4. Calculate net pay using various types of payroll methods (e.g. hourly, salary, commission).
  5. Use the ten-key pad on computer keyboard to enter numbers into business documents.
