HOR 273 Horticulture Management and Marketing

This course covers the steps involved in starting or managing a horticultural business. Topics include financing, regulations, market analysis, employer/employee relations, formulation of business plans, and operational procedures in a horticultural business. Upon completion, students should be able to assume ownership or management of a horticultural business.

At the completion of the course, students should be able to do the following:

  1. Develop a comprehensive business plan tailored to the needs of a horticultural enterprise, including financing and operational procedures, according to industry standards.  
  2. Analyze market trends and regulations to make informed decisions about the feasibility and success of a horticultural business.
  3. Demonstrate effective employer/employee relations strategies to foster a productive and positive work environment within a horticultural business. 
  4. Apply principles of market analysis to identify and target appropriate customer segments for horticultural products or services.
  5. Evaluate financial strategies and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and sustainability in the management of a horticultural business.
