The Early Childhood Education curriculum prepares individuals to work with children from infancy through middle childhood in diverse learning environments. Students will combine learned theories with practice in actual settings with young children under the supervision of qualified teachers.
Course work includes child growth and development; physical/nutritional needs of children; care and guidance of children; and communication skills with parents and children. Students will foster the cognitive/language, physical/motor, social/emotional and creative development of young children.
Graduates are prepared to plan and implement developmentally appropriate programs in early childhood settings.
Students choosing an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education have 3 options. Please note that students must choose only one Early Childhood Education Associate degree option (A55220A1 Career, A55220A2 Non-licensure Transfer, A55220A3 Licensure Transfer).
A55220A1 - Career option - 66 credits
The Career option is intended for students who wish to work in the early childhood education field upon graduation with their Associate’s degree. Employment opportunities include child development and child care programs, preschools, public and private schools, recreational centers, Head Start Programs, and school age programs.
A55220A2 - Non-Licensure Transfer option - 70 credits
The Non-Licensure Transfer option is intended for students interested in transferring to a university to complete a bachelor’s degree and who want to work in childcare/early childhood administration.
A55220A3 - Licensure Transfer option - 70 credits
The Licensure Transfer option is intended for students interested in transferring to a university to complete a bachelor’s degree and earn a N.C. Birth-Kindergarten (BK) teaching license.

Upon successful the Early Childhood Education degree, graduate should be able to:
