The Fire Protection Technology curriculum is designed to provide individuals with the technical and professional knowledge necessary to make decisions regarding fire protection for both public and private sectors. It also provides a sound foundation for continuous higher learning in fire protection, administration and management.
Course work includes classroom and laboratory exercises to introduce the student to various aspects of fire protection. Students will learn technical and administrative skills such as hydraulics, hazardous materials, arson investigation, fire protection safety, fire suppression management, law and codes.
Graduates should qualify for employment or advancement in governmental agencies, industrial firms, insurance rating organizations, educational organizations and municipal fire departments. Employed persons should have opportunities for skilled and supervisory positions within their current organizations.
The degree program is accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and recognized by the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) program.
Program Outcomes:
Upon successful completion the Fire Protection Technology degree, graduate should be able to:
- Examine best practices in fire prevention per NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) 1021 guidelines.
- Demonstrate various methods of communication skills necessary for the fire service that incorporate NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) 1041 and 1021.
- Apply knowledge of financial processes associated with the fire service and local government.
- Apply fireground operations and incident management that include appropriate NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards and guidelines.
- Describe fire service organization, management, and leadership.
- Create an effective emergency management program that includes appropriate NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards and guidelines.
