The High School Adjunct Instructor certificate provides a course of study leading to the development of the general pedagogy and competencies needed to become an adjunct instructor in a public high school in North Carolina.
Course work includes classroom management and pedagogy, effective instructional methods, foundations of education, educational technology, and other related topics.
Graduates of this program should be prepared to teach in a high school setting and provide instruction in core academic subjects, fine and performing arts, or foreign language in the individual’s area of specialized knowledge or work experience.
Program Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the High School Adjunct Instructor Certificate Program, the student will be able to:
- Create developmentally and culturally appropriate learning environments that integrate technology and support equity and diversity to meet the needs of all learners.
- Design developmentally appropriate, standards-based lesson plans and activities that utilize a constructivist approach to scaffold student learning and promote critical thinking.
- Use formative and summative assessment strategies to assess prior knowledge and learning, identify strengths and weaknesses, plan for instruction, and support authentic learning.
- Demonstrate competence in roles, responsibilities, and ethical standards of the teaching profession.
