The Information Technology - Cyber Operations track is designed to cover a broad expanse of computer operating systems, network and security technology concepts.  This curriculum provides individuals with the skills required to implement effective and comprehensive information security controls designed to identify and counter threats to an organization’s assets on small to medium sized networks using industry standard operating systems and industry best practices.  Course work includes networking technologies, operating systems administration, information security policy, intrusion detection, and security administration. In addition, students will learn how to use technologies to provide reliable transmission and delivery of voice, data, and video communications in business, industry, and education. Knowledge of these concepts will also equip students to defend computer systems and networks in the cybersecurity industry.

Graduates should be prepared for employment as Cyber Security Analysts, Network Engineers, and Penetration Testers. Additionally, graduates will acquire the skills and knowledge required to pass the Cisco Certified Network Administrator, the Cisco Cyber Ops Associate, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Linux+, CompTIA CySA+ and the CompTIA PenTest+ certifications.

Upon successful completion of the Information Technology, Cyber Operations track, graduates should be able to:

  • Mitigate identified security threats for reliable network operations 
  • Use standardized industry software to monitor and analyze network traffic
  • Apply strategic planning to enhance network security
  • Implement Local Area Networks using both static and dynamic IP addressing techniques
  • Configure small to medium sized Local Area Networks in accordance with industry and security standards
  • Secure networks through device hardening, Access Control Lists, and network segmentation for both IPv4 and IPv6 networks
