AUT 221A Automatic Transmissions/Transaxles Lab

Lecture: 0 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 1
This course is an optional lab to be used as an alternative to co-op placement in meeting the NATEF standards for total hours. Topics include hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical/electronic operation of automatic drive trains and the use of appropriate service tools and equipment. Upon completion, students should be able to diagnose and repair automatic drive trains.

Co-requisite(s): AUT 221 .

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Diagnose a fault with an automatic transmission shift solenoid on an OBDII vehicle.
  2. Evaluate the condition of an automatic transmission by removal of the transmission pan.
  3. Interpret scan tool data related to the automatic transmission.
  4. Recommend the appropriate repairs needed on an automatic transmission based on manufacturers’ specifications.
  5. Perform a flush service on a vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission
  6. Diagnose a fault with an automatic transfer case on a four-wheel drive vehicle.
  7. Remove an automatic transmission from a vehicle using published specifications.
  8. Install an automatic transmission in a vehicle using published specifications.
  9. Remove an automatic transfer case for inspection using published specifications.
  10. Install an automatic transfer case in a vehicle using published specifications.
