HMT 220 Healthcare Financial Management Lecture: 4 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 4 This course covers the methods and techniques utilized in the financial management of healthcare programs. Topics include cost determination, pricing of services, financial statement analysis, forecasting/projections, third-party billing, reimbursement, Medicare, Medicaid, and budgeting. Upon completion, students should be able to interpret and apply the principles of financial management in a healthcare environment.
Pre-requisite(s): OST 138 , ACC 120 and HMT 110. Course is typically offered in Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Analyze the methods and techniques utilized in the financial management of the healthcare system.
- Examine healthcare reimbursement systems.
- Perform specific accounting processes to include: cost determination, pricing of cervices, financial statement analysis,forecasting/projections, and third-party billing.
- Evaluate the budgeting process for a medical practice.
- Investigate the impact of Medicare and Medicaid on the financial status of a medical practice.
