HMT 220 Healthcare Financial Management

This course covers the methods and techniques utilized in the financial management of healthcare programs. Topics include cost determination, pricing of services, financial statement analysis, forecasting/projections, third-party billing, reimbursement, Medicare, Medicaid, and budgeting. Upon completion, students should be able to interpret and apply the principles of financial management in a healthcare environment.

Pre-requisite(s): OST 138, ACC 120 and HMT 110.
Course is typically offered in Spring.

At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

Analyze the methods and techniques utilized in the financial management of the healthcare system.
Examine healthcare reimbursement systems.
Perform specific accounting processes to include: cost determination, pricing of cervices, financial statement analysis,forecasting/projections, and third-party billing.
Evaluate the budgeting process for a medical practice.
Investigate the impact of Medicare and Medicaid on the financial status of a medical practice.
