LEX 141 Civil Litigation II

Lecture: 2 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course covers advanced topics in the civil litigation process. Topics include motions, discovery, and trial and appellate procedures. Upon completion, students should be able to assist an attorney in preparing and organizing documents for trial, settlement and post-trial practice.

Pre-requisite(s): LEX 140.  
Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Draft pleadings demonstrating state and federal subject matter in a classroom exercise.
  2. File pleadings demonstrating state and federal subject matter in classroom exercises.
  3. Apply the N.C. Rules of Evidence in a mock trial exercise.
  4. Draft pleadings and motions using the NC Rules of Evidence.
  5. Demonstrate the fact pattern of court rules of practice through a mock trial.
  6. Complete civil litigation support documents online from the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts.
