MED 131 Administrative Office Procedures II

Lecture: 1 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2
This course provides medical office procedures in both economic and management skills. Topics include physical plant maintenance, equipment and supplies, liability coverage, medical economics, and introductory insurance procedures. Upon completion, students should be able to manage the economics of the medical office and supervise personnel.

Pre-requisite(s): MED 130  and Admission to the Medical Assisting Program.
Course is typically offered in Spring.
Course has transfer restrictions - 2 years

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Perform procedural and diagnostic coding using professional resources and office software in lab exercises and written exams.
  2. Execute the basic steps of the health insurance claim process in lab exercises and written exams within a simulated medical office.
  3. Document accounting and banking records of patients in case studies and written exams within a simulated medical office.
  4. Achieve an 80% or greater proficiency on final administrative procedural competency in a simulated medical office setting. (limited to one attempt)
