MUS 222 Music Theory IV Lecture: 3 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 4 This course is a continuation of studies begun in MUS 221 . Emphasis is placed on continued study of common practice era compositional techniques and forms, 20th century practices, ear-training, and sight-singing. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate proficiency in the recognition and application of the above.
This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.
Pre-requisite(s): C or better in MUS 221 . Course is typically offered in Fall and Spring (when offered). Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate analysis of chromaticism through borrowed chords, the Neopolitan chord, augmented sixth chords, and enharmonic spellings.
- Demonstrate improvement in common and popular musical structure.
- Explore tonal harmony in 20th century practices.
- Use musical terms correctly in reading assignments and lectures.
- Demonstrate advanced skills in ear-training and sight-singing.
