SUR 137 Professional Success Preparation Lecture: 1 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 1 This course provides employability skills and an overview of theoretical knowledge in preparation for certification. Topics include test-taking strategies, resume preparation, interviewing strategies, communication skills, and teamwork concepts. Upon completion, students should be able to prepare a resume, demonstrate appropriate interview techniques, and identify strengths and weaknesses in preparation for certification.
Pre-requisite(s): SUR 122 Course is typically offered in Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Integrate knowledge and concepts of anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology and anesthesia, and medical terminology for the practice of surgical technology.
- Demonstrate communication skills to function effectively as a surgical team member and for the interview process for employment.
- Adhere to professional standards of conduct and practice in the performance of the surgical technologist role.
- Prepare for successful completion of the National Certifying Exam in Surgical Technology.
