ART 284 Ceramics II

This course covers advanced hand building and wheel techniques. Emphasis is placed on creative expression, surface design, sculptural quality, and glaze effect. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate a high level of technical competence in forming and glazing with a development of three-dimensional awareness.

This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.

At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

Create a portfolio of ceramic artwork with a high level of technical, formal, and conceptual skill.
Create original ceramic artwork using hand building and wheel throwing techniques.
Demonstrate technical competence in glaze application and surface design.
Explain the ceramics production process.
Evaluate ceramic artwork through critique.
Demonstrate design concepts and ceramics techniques with a comprehensive sketchbook.
