COS 271 Instructor Concepts I

Lecture: 5 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 5
This course introduces the basic cosmetology instructional concepts. Topics include orientation, theories of education, unit planning, daily lesson planning, laboratory management, student assessment, record keeping, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to identify theories of education, develop lesson plans, demonstrate supervisory techniques, and assess student performance in a classroom setting.

Pre-requisite(s): Current N.C. Cosmetology License.
Co-requisite(s): COS 272 .
Course is typically offered in Fall.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Examine basic cosmetology instructional concepts.
  2. Examine the theories of education as they apply to adult learners in a cosmetology classroom.
  3. Apply theories of education as they apply to adult learners in a cosmetology classroom.
  4. Develop lesson plans for both theory and laboratory concepts.
  5. Create activities to assess student performances in a classroom setting.
