AHR 113 Comfort Cooling Lecture: 2 Lab: 4 Clinic: 0 Credits: 4 This course covers the installation procedures, system operations, and maintenance of residential and light commercial comfort cooling systems. Topics include terminology, component operation, and testing and repair of equipment used to control and produce assured comfort levels. Upon completion, students should be able to use psychrometrics, manufacturer specifications, and test instruments to determine proper system operation.
Co-requisite(s): DRE 097 or ENG 002 and MAT 003 (P2 grade) and AHR 110 . Course is typically offered in Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate safe practices in the HVAC shop following established safety procedures with a score of 90% or above
- Complete Lockout/Tagout tags for equipment and electrical disconnects on all equipment in the HVAC lab.
- Demonstrate the science, control and meaning of comfort as it applies to air conditioning.
- Demonstrate, through hands lab, the principles of air distribution and filtration in a HVAC system.
- Evaluate filtration systems in the lab.
- Measure the volume, pressure, and velocity of air to meet the equipment and ACCA standards acceptable for air conditioning.
- Control HVAC devices to achieve maximum comfort levels 7. Install HVAC equipment per the accepted practices and rules of the NC Mechanical Code.
- Demonstrate the complete Refrigeration cycle and components for air conditioning based on industry standard and manufactures installation instructions.
- Set refrigerant levels in HVAC systems based on both generic and manufacturers guidelines in a lab setting.
