AUT 116 Engine Repair Lecture: 2 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course covers the theory, construction, inspection, diagnosis, and repair of internal combustion engines and related systems. Topics include fundamental operating principles of engines and diagnosis, inspection, adjustment, and repair of automotive engines using appropriate service information. Upon completion, students should be able to perform basic diagnosis, measurement and repair of automotive engines using appropriate tools, equipment, procedures, and service information.
Pre-requisite(s): TRN 110 . Course is typically offered in various semesters. Check with the department for your particular credentialing option. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Complete cylinder cranking and running compression tests.
- Complete a cylinder leakage test.
- Demonstrate the ability to properly disassemble an engine block and examine the components.
- Demonstrate the ability to correctly set valve timing on both overhead valve as well as overhead cam engines.
- Evaluate crankshaft main bearing and connecting rod bearing clearances using precision measurements.
- Test cylinder head and engine block surfaces for cracks and warpage.
- Measure engine oil pressure, compare to specification and determine any needed action.
- Apply the procedures of service information to correctly assemble an engine.
