AUT 141 Suspension & Steering Systems Lecture: 2 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course covers principles of operation, types, and diagnosis/repair of suspension and steering systems to include steering geometry. Topics include manual and power steering systems and standard and electronically controlled suspension and steering systems. Upon completion, students should be able to service and repair steering and suspension components, check and adjust alignment angles, repair tires, and balance wheels.
Pre-requisite(s): TRN 110 . Course is typically offered in various semesters. Check with the department for your particular credentialing option. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Evaluate suspension and steering system concerns to determine necessary action for repair(s).
- Disable supplemental restraint system (SRS).
- Research applicable vehicle service information to include: suspension and steering system operation, service precautions, technical service bulletins.
- Evaluate power steering fluid for proper fluid level and condition.
- Evaluate cause of power steering fluid leakage to determine necessary action for repair(s).
- Inspect tire condition to identify tire wear patterns.
- Perform 4-tire rotation.
- Replace shock absorbers.
- Perform 4-tire rotation.
- Lubricate suspension and steering system components.
- Perform pre-alignment inspection, including vehicle ride height, to determine necessary action for repair(s).
