AUT 151 Brake Systems Lecture: 2 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course covers principles of operation and types, diagnosis, service, and repair of brake systems. Topics include drum and disc brakes involving hydraulic, vacuum boost, hydra-boost, electrically powered boost, and anti-lock and parking brake systems. Upon completion, students should be able to diagnose, service, and repair various automotive braking systems.
Pre-requisite(s): TRN 110 . Course is typically offered in various semesters. Check with the department for your particular credentialing option. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Diagnose improper operation of brake systems using manufacturer service information and recommended equipment.
- Bleed the brake hydraulic system.
- Bleed the ABS hydraulic system.
- Refinish brake drum to a specific diameter using recommended equipment and manufacturer service information.
- Refinish brake rotor on a vehicle to a specific final rotor thickness using recommended equipment and manufacturer service information.
- Evaluate the power booster unit using manufacturer service information.
