AUT 151 Brake Systems

Lecture: 2 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3


This course covers principles of operation and types, diagnosis, service, and repair of brake systems. Topics include drum and disc brakes involving hydraulic, vacuum boost, hydra-boost, electrically powered boost, and anti-lock and parking brake systems. Upon completion, students should be able to diagnose, service, and repair various automotive braking systems.

Pre-requisite(s): TRN 110 .

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Diagnose improper operation of brake systems.
  2. Repair issues in the brake hydraulic system requiring bleeding.
  3. Service issues in the ABS hydraulic system requiring bleeding.
  4. Diagnose brake drum or disc condition and refinishing needs.
  5. Diagnose the performance of the power booster unit.
