AVI 260 Powerplant Maintenance III Lecture: 5 Lab: 12 Clinic: 0 Credits: 9 This final course of the powerplant series covers engine systems and components; propellers and unducted fans; and induction, airflow, cooling, exhaust, and reverser systems. The course culminates with engine inspections. The student should be prepared to pass the applicable portions of the knowledge, oral, and practical exams for the powerplant rating at the completion of this course.
Pre-requisite(s): AVI 110 . Course is typically offered in Fall and Summer. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Identify faults in engine carburetor, air intake and induction systems to level 3 standards.
- Examine and describe airflow through engine cooling systems and components to level 3 standards.
- Apply inspection and service requirements for engine exhaust systems to level 3 standards.
- Explain the operation of a propeller to a level 2 standard.
- Inspect a turbine engine according to an inspection program to a level 3 standard.
