SUR 122 Surgical Procedures I Lecture: 5 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 6 This course provides an introduction to selected basic and intermediate surgical specialties that students are exposed to the first clinical rotation. Emphasis is placed on related surgical anatomy, pathology, and procedures that enhance theoretical knowledge of patient care, instrumentation, supplies, and equipment. Upon completion, students should be able to correlate, integrate, and apply theoretical knowledge of the course topics to the clinical operative environment.
Pre-requisite(s): SUR 110 and SUR 111 . Co-requisite(s): SUR 123 . Course is typically offered in Spring (SUR-122AB) and Summer (SUR-122BB). Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate appropriate preparation of the patient and the surgical environment for basic and intermediate specialty procedures.
- Practice basic and intermediate specialty procedures incorporating knowledge of anatomy and pathology.
- Handle instrumentation, supplies, and equipment properly for basic and intermediate specialty procedures.
- Practice effective post-operative patient care for basic and intermediate specialty procedures.
