ECO 151 Survey of Economics Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course, for those who have not received credit for ECO 251 or 252, introduces basic concepts of micro- and macroeconomics. Topics include supply and demand, optimizing economic behavior, prices and wages, money, interest rates, banking system, unemployment, inflation, taxes, government spending, and international trade. Upon completion, students should be able to explain alternative solutions for economic problems faced by private and government sectors.
This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a general education course in Social/Behavioral Sciences.
Pre-requisite(s): DRE 098 or ENG 002 (P2 grade) and MAT 003 (P2 grade). Course is typically offered in Fall (when offered) Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Use the tools of economics to study decision making behavior.
- 2se the tools of economics to evaluate public policies for efficiency and equity.
- Compare how firms operate under various market structures.
- Examine why markets work and why they fail.
- Examine the sources of economic growth.
- Interpret measures of Gross Domestic Product, unemployment, and inflation.
- Recognize the role of the credit market in an economy.
- Determine the appropriate fiscal and monetary policies for the various phases of a business cycle.
- Explain the process of globalization and its implications for trade policy.
