AHR 130 HVAC Controls

Lecture: 2 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course covers the types of controls found in residential and commercial comfort systems. Topics include electrical and electronic controls, control schematics and diagrams, test instruments, and analysis and troubleshooting of electrical systems. Upon completion, students should be able to diagnose and repair common residential and commercial comfort system controls.

Pre-requisite(s): AHR 111 , ELC 111, or ELC 112  
Course is typically offered in Summer.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Identify various types of electrical and electronic controls used in residential and commercial comfort systems.
  2. Interpret control schematics and wiring diagrams for proper system operation.
  3. Use test instruments to measure voltage, current, and resistance in HVACR systems.
  4. Troubleshoot common electrical and electronic control failures in residential and commercial HVACR systems.
  5. Explain the operation and function of electrical components in HVACR control systems.
  6. Construct basic electrical circuits using industry-standard components and wiring techniques.
