AHR 235 Refrigeration Design Lecture: 2 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course covers the principles of commercial refrigeration system operation and design. Topics include walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, system components, load calculations, equipment selection, defrost systems, refrigerant line sizing, and electric controls. Upon completion, students should be able to design, adjust, and perform routine service procedures on a commercial refrigeration system.
Pre-requisite(s): AHR 110 . Course is typically offered in Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:
- Compare different commercial refrigeration systems, including walk-in coolers and freezers, based on refrigeration principles.
- Identify refrigeration system components, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and expansion devices.
- Select appropriate equipment based on calculated refrigeration loads and industry standards.
- Configure defrost systems and electric controls to maintain proper refrigeration operation.
- Perform routine service procedures, adjustments, and diagnostics on commercial refrigeration systems.
