ARC 160 Residential Design

Lecture: 1 Lab: 6 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course introduces the methodology of basic residential design. Topics include residential site design, space organization and layout, residential styles, and the development of schematic design. Upon completion, students should be able to design a residence.

Pre-requisite(s): ARC 111  and ARC 113 .
Co-requisite(s): ARC 112 .
Course is typically offered in Summer (when offered).
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Research design options to be measured by Lab Assignments.
  2. Design a simple residence within specified course time limits to be measured by checklist provided.
  3. Apply space organization to a residential project to be measured by Lab Assignments.
  4. Research manufacturer’s literature to select appropriate “green” materials for residential construction to be measured by Lab Assignments.
  5. Produce a set of residential design documents in accordance with acceptable professional standards to be measured by checklist provided.
  6. Write a narrative describing the design process used and choices in materials and site placement as related to green and sustainable construction to be measured by checklist provided.
