AUT 221 Automatic Transmissions/Transaxles

Lecture: 2 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course covers operation, diagnosis, service, and repair of automatic transmissions/transaxles. Topics include hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical/electronic operation of automatic drive trains and the use of appropriate service tools and equipment. Upon completion, students should be able to explain operational theory, diagnose and repair automatic drive trains.

Pre-requisite(s): TRN 120  
Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Perform a pressure test on a transmission/transaxle with electronic pressure controls.
  2. Diagnose automatic transmission/transaxle concerns using power flow principles, appropriate test equipment, and service information.
  3. Demonstrate the overhaul of an automatic transmission/transaxle using appropriate equipment, tools, and service information.
  4. Analyze the operation of an automatic transmission clutch-pack by measuring clearances and using proper air testing methods.
