AUT 221A Automatic Transmissions/Transaxles Lab

This course is an optional lab to be used as an alternative to co-op placement in meeting the NATEF standards for total hours. Topics include hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical/electronic operation of automatic drive trains and the use of appropriate service tools and equipment. Upon completion, students should be able to diagnose and repair automatic drive trains.

At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

Evaluate the condition of an automatic transmission by removal of the transmission pan.
Recommend the appropriate repairs needed on an automatic transmission based on manufacturers’ specifications.
Perform a flush service on a vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission.
Diagnose a fault with an automatic transfer case on a four-wheel drive vehicle.
Service an automatic transmission of a vehicle using published specifications.
Service an automatic transfer case using published specifications.
