AUT 221A Automatic Transmissions/Transaxles Lab

Lecture: 0 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 1
This course is an optional lab to be used as an alternative to co-op placement in meeting the NATEF standards for total hours. Topics include hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical/electronic operation of automatic drive trains and the use of appropriate service tools and equipment. Upon completion, students should be able to diagnose and repair automatic drive trains.

Co-requisite(s): AUT 221  
Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Evaluate the condition of an automatic transmission by removal of the transmission pan.
  2. Recommend the appropriate repairs needed on an automatic transmission based on manufacturers’ specifications.
  3. Perform a flush service on a vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission.
  4. Diagnose a fault with an automatic transfer case on a four-wheel drive vehicle.
  5. Service an automatic transmission of a vehicle using published specifications.
  6. Service an automatic transfer case using published specifications.
