TRN 130 Introduction to Sustainable Transportation Lecture: 2 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course provides an overview of alternative fuels and alternative fuel vehicles. Topics include composition and use of alternative fuels including compressed natural gas, biodiesel, ethanol, hydrogen, and synthetic fuels, hybrid/electric, and vehicles using alternative fuels. Upon completion, students should be able to identify alternative fuel vehicles, explain how each alternative fuel delivery system operates, and perform minor repairs.
Pre-requisite(s): TRN 120 . Course is typically offered in Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Identify alternative fuels used in transportation industry to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels.
- Describe appropriate safety practices used when servicing and repairing Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (HEVs).
- Describe the similarities and differences between various types of Hybrid and Electric Vehicle (HEV) power systems.
- Identify emerging fuel sources for the transportation industry.
