AHR 235 Refrigeration Design

Lecture: 2 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course covers the principles of commercial refrigeration system operation and design. Topics include walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, system components, load calculations, equipment selection, defrost systems, refrigerant line sizing, and electric controls. Upon completion, students should be able to design, adjust, and perform routine service procedures on a commercial refrigeration system.

Pre-requisite(s): AHR 110 .
Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Compare different commercial refrigeration systems, including walk-in coolers and freezers, based on refrigeration principles.
  2. Identify refrigeration system components, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and expansion devices.
  3. Select appropriate equipment based on calculated refrigeration loads and industry standards.
  4. Configure defrost systems and electric controls to maintain proper refrigeration operation.
  5. Perform routine service procedures, adjustments, and diagnostics on commercial refrigeration systems.
