AVI 120 Airframe Maintenance I Lecture: 6 Lab: 18 Clinic: 0 Credits: 12 This course covers airframe structures, systems, and components. Emphasis is placed on metallic structures, non-metallic structures, flight controls, communications, light signals, runway lighting systems, rotorcraft fundamentals, and water and waste systems. Upon completion, students should be prepared to pass the applicable portions of the knowledge, oral, and practical tests of the airframe rating for the FAA mechanic’s airframe certificate.
Pre-requisite(s): AVI 110 Course is typically offered in Fall and Spring (AVI-120BB); Spring and Summer (AVI-120AB) Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Apply metallic structures repair and fabrication practices for aviation.
- Apply Non-Metallic structures repair and fabrication practices for aviation.
- Inspect aircraft flight control systems for proper rigging, travel, balance, and limits.
- Identify rotorcraft flight control and transmission systems to include procedures for balance and track rigging.
- Inspect operations and component location for water and waste systems to include servicing methods.
- Demonstrate the basic operating principles of aircraft communications and navigational radios along with proper testing and troubleshooting techniques.
