AVI 250 Powerplant Maintenance II Lecture: 10 Lab: 15 Clinic: 0 Credits: 15 This course covers engine systems and components. Emphasis is placed on engine instrument systems, engine fire protection systems, engine electrical systems, engine lubrication systems, ignition and starting systems, and engine fuel and fuel metering systems. Upon completion, students should be prepared to pass the applicable portions of the knowledge, oral, and practical tests of the airframe rating for the FAA mechanic’s powerplant certificate.
Pre-requisite(s): AVI 110 Course is typically offered in Summer (AVI-250AB); Fall and Spring (AVI-250BB). Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Inspect for proper operation all engine instrumentation systems to include expected testing outcomes during engine run.
- Inspect engine fire protection systems for proper operation and related servicing processes.
- Identify engine electrical components to include starters, generators, voltage regulators, CSD and IDG systems and related wiring in conjunction with the processes for testing and troubleshooting failures.
- Identify engine ignition and starting system components to include spark plugs, magnetos, impulse couplings, starters, turbine igniter systems and related wiring in conjunction with the processes for testing and troubleshooting failures.
- Identify fuel metering system components on both reciprocating and turbine engines along with related wiring in conjunction with the processes for testing and troubleshooting failures.
- Inspect both reciprocating and turbine engine lubrication systems to include pumps, chip detectors, filters and bypass systems, oil filters to include servicing and troubleshooting procedures.
