ELC 131 Circuit Analysis I Lecture: 3 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 4 This course introduces DC and AC electricity with an emphasis on circuit analysis, measurements, and operation of test equipment. Topics include DC and AC principles, circuit analysis laws and theorems, components, test equipment operation, circuit simulation, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to interpret circuit schematics; design, construct, verify, and analyze DC/AC circuits; and properly use test equipment.
Pre-requisite(s): MAT-003 (P2 Grade) or MAT 035 (Local) Course is typically offered in Fall. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:
- Explain fundamental electrical quantities such as voltage, current, resistance, power, and their relationships in circuits.
- Analyze direct current (DC) characteristics of series, parallel, and combination circuits using Ohm’s Law and Kirchhoff’s Laws.
- Analyze alternating current (AC) characteristics of circuits containing inductors and capacitors.
- Measure voltage, current, resistance, frequency, amplitude, and phase relationship using test instruments like the digital multimeter and oscilloscope.
- Evaluate circuit operation using circuit simulation software.
