MAC 143A Machining Applications III Lab Lecture: 0 Lab: 6 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2 This course provides laboratory instruction in the field of advanced machining. Emphasis is placed on creating complex components, close-tolerance machining, precise measurement, and proper equipment usage. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate the ability to produce an accurately machined component with a quality finish using the proper machining process.
Pre-requisite(s): MAC 141 , MAC 141A , MAC 142 and MAC 142A . Course is typically offered in Summer. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the courses, students should be able to do the following:
- Determine the grit, hardness, and composition of grinding wheels from identification numbers without error.
- Pass a Grinding Safety test with a score of 88% or greater.
- Locate Cartesian Coordinates milling the “X” and “Z” axis using Digital Readout (DRO) to a tolerance of +/-.001” and rough mill grinding parts .005” oversize to a tolerance of +/-.002”.
- Demonstrate heat treating skills on A2 tool steel to a tolerance of +/-4 on the Rockwell Hardness scale.
- Perform grinding operations perpendicular to a tolerance of +/-.0005” or .004mm.
- Perform grinding operations parallel to a tolerance of +/-.0005” or .004mm.
- Perform grinding operations flat to a tolerance of +/-.0002” or .002mm.
