MAC 232 CAM: CNC Milling Lecture: 1 Lab: 4 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course introduces Computer Numerical Control graphics programming and concepts for machining center applications. Emphasis is placed on developing a shape file in a graphics CAM system and transferring coded information from CAM graphics to the CNC milling center. Upon completion, students should be able to develop a complete job plan using CAM software to create a multi-axis CNC program.
Pre-requisite(s): MAC 121 , MAC 141 , MAC 141A and MEC 110 . Course is typically offered in Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Create part geometry using a CAD system to save as a data exchange file.
- Create tool path boundaries for milling.
- Setup milling machine operations with acceptable feeds and speeds for the given material to a +/-10% tolerance.
- Create a CNC milling program using a CAM system to save as a Numerical Control (NC) file.
- Create a machined part from the CAMMED NC file.
- Create geometry to produce a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) program that incorporates a fifth (B-axis) on a CNC Milling Center.
