WLD 122 GMAW (MIG) Plate/Pipe

Lecture: 1 Lab: 6 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3

This course is designed to enhance skills with the gas metal arc (MIG) welding process. Emphasis is placed on advancing skills with the GMAW process making groove welds on carbon steel plate and pipe in various positions. Upon completion, students should be able to perform groove welds with prescribed electrodes on various joint geometry.

Pre-requisite(s): WLD 121 .
Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
Upon completion of the course, students should be able to complete the following:

  1. Apply practical and theoretical knowledge, on an examination of GMAW quality, established in AWS Welding codes with a minimum score of 75.
  2. Weld on multiple alloys in various positions verified by visual and destructive tests in compliance with AWS Welding Codes.
  3. Produce acceptable fillet and groove welds on mild steel assemblies in various positions on sheet, plate, and pipe that are visually compliant with AWS Welding Codes.
