MAC 226 CNC EDM Machining

Lecture: 1 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2

This course introduces the programming, setup, and operation of CNC electrical discharge machines. Topics include programming formats, control functions, program editing, production of parts, and inspection. Upon completion, students should be able to manufacture simple parts using CNC electrical discharge machines.

Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, students should be able to do the following:

  1. Set up CNC electrical discharge machines (EDMs) by configuring machine parameters, tool offsets, and workpiece alignment.
  2. Develop CNC EDM programs using appropriate programming formats, codes, and software tools.
  3. Operate CNC electrical discharge machines safely and efficiently, applying proper control functions and troubleshooting techniques.
  4. Manufacture simple parts using CNC EDMs.
  5. Inspect machined parts using precision measurement tools to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface quality.
  6. Apply safety procedures and maintenance practices to ensure proper operation, prevent damage, and extend machine lifespan.
