Associate in Arts to Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies Pathway

The two-year program listed below is designed to meet the requirements for an Associate of Arts transfer degree from GTCC and prepare a student for obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Religion at University of North Carolina at Greensboro, North Carolina A&T State University, Appalachian State University, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, or University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

However, students from GTCC seeking a baccalaureate degree may also transfer to other institutions. These institutions may require different courses within the various areas of General Education. Students interested in transferring to a four-year college or university after GTCC should consult with the institution they will be attending, their faculty advisor, and/or the GTCC Student Success Center.

Upon successful completion of this degree, graduates will be able to:

  • ​Evaluate sources to acquire new information in the field of religion.
  • Analyze academic theories used in the study of Religion.
  • Compare objective and subjective beliefs as they are encountered in the practice of religion.
  • Analyze a primary religious text from a historical perspective.

1 UNCW requires GEO 111 or GEO 112 instead of REL 110.

2 MAT 143, MAT 152 or MAT 171 (if taking MAT 143, an extra hour is needed for a total of 60 hours Associate degree); UNCC requires MAT 171.

3 UNCG requires BIO 110; other universities should follow UGETC Natural Science options: AST 151, BIO 110, CHM 151, GEL 111, or PHY 110.

4 UNCG requires four semesters of foreign language; consult other university pathways for pre-major elective ideas; UNCC and UNCW require PHI 230.
