Associate in Arts to Bachelor of Science/Arts in Political Science Pathway

The two-year program listed below is designed to meet the requirements for an Associate of Arts transfer degree from GTCC and prepare a student for obtaining a Bachelor of Science/Arts in Political Science at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, North Carolina A&T State University, Appalachian State University, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

However, students from GTCC seeking a baccalaureate degree may also transfer to other institutions. These institutions may require different courses within the various areas of General Education. Students interested in transferring to a four-year college or university after GTCC should consult with the institution they will be attending, the faculty advisor and/or the GTCC Student Success Center.

Upon successful completion of this degree, graduates will be able to:

  • Use various strategies to acquire new information in the discipline of Political Science.
  • Analyze major social, political, cultural, and philosophical trends presented in the field of Political Science.
  • Apply critical thinking to analyze varying political perspectives.
  • Use various tools and methods to evaluate sources in research related to political economy.

Notes:


1 Recommended HIS 131 , PSY 150 , or SOC 210  

2 UNCG and ASU require 4 semesters of foreign language. UNC-W require 3 semesters of foreign language. UNC-Charlotte and NC A&T require 2 semesters.

3 UNCG requires a UGETC Math (3-4). ASU requires MAT 152 . UNCW requires two Math UGETCs (3-4 each). A&T requires MAT 171  (4) and MAT 172  (4). UNCC only requires MAT 152 .  

 - If taking MAT 143  in Semester 2, student must take 1 additional hour to complete the 60-hr Associate in Arts.

6 UNCG, UNC-Charlotte, ASU require one UGETC Natural Science (4). A&T requires AST 151 /AST 151A  or PHY 110 /PHY 110A  (4). UNC-W requires BIO 110 , BIO 111 , CHM 151 , GEL 111  or PHY 110 /PHY 110A .

7 Recommended HIS 227 . ASU requires two hours of PED and should be taken here in place of HIS 227 If also taking MAT 143  in Semester 2, students transferring to ASU must take two additional hours to complete the 60-hr Associate in Arts.
