COS 116 Salon III

Lecture: 0 Lab: 12 Clinic: 0 Credits: 4
This course provides comprehensive experience in a simulated salon setting. Emphasis is placed on intermediate-level of skin care, manicuring, scalp treatments, shampooing, hair color, design, haircutting, chemical restructuring, pressing, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to safely and competently demonstrate these salon services.

Pre-requisite(s): C or better in COS 111  and COS 112.  
Co-requisite(s): COS 115.  
Course is typically offered in Summer.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the student will successfully demonstrate, with 70% accuracy on an exam, each of the following skills as assessed using the NC State Board guidelines:

  1. Portray a professional image in the classroom and salon by exhibiting proper personal grooming, hygiene habits, and wearing appropriate clothing and shoes that are clean and functional, following guidelines set out in the student handbook.
  2. Maintain a clean and sanitary work area in accordance with North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Arts.
  3. ​Produce cosmetology services including but not limited to: hairstyling, haircutting, hair coloring, chemical textures, manicuring, pedicuring, and giving facials.
  4. Document accurate client records.
  5. Defend the results of a mock licensure exam.
