MED 118 Medical Law and Ethics

This course covers legal relationships of physicians and patients, contractual agreements, professional liability, malpractice, medical practice acts, informed consent, and bioethical issues. Emphasis is placed on legal terms, professional attitudes, and the principles and basic concepts of ethics and laws involved in providing medical services. Upon completion, students should be able to meet the legal and ethical responsibilities of a multi-skilled health professional.

Pre-requisite(s): Admission to the Medical Assisting Program, MED 110 and MED 114.
Course is typically offered in Spring.
Course has transfer restrictions - 2 years

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

Analyze the legal and ethical concepts relevant to designated legal case studies as demonstrated through discussion board,quiz and other online assignments.
Utilize credible internet sources to research a current legal/ethical issue on written project.
Apply understanding of key term concepts in order to correctly answer exam questions.
