AUB 136 Plastics and Adhesives Lecture: 1 Lab: 4 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course covers safety, plastic and adhesive identification, and the various repair methods of automotive plastic components. Topics include safety, identification, preparation, material selection, and the various repair procedures including refinishing. Upon completion, students should be able to identify, remove, repair, and/or replace automotive plastic components in accordance with industry standards.
Pre-requisite(s): AUB 121 and TRN 110 . Course is typically offered in Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Determine the reparability of various types of plastics.
- Perform a one sided “cosmetic” adhesive panel repair.
- Perform a two sided “structural” adhesive repair.
- Perform an adhesive tab repair.
- Perform a airless plastic weld.
- Perform a hot air plastic weld.
- Perform a welded tab repair with reinforcement.
- Perform a welded tab repair without reinforcement.
- Demonstrate plastic refinish procedures.
