Biology is the natural science concerned with the study of all living organisms, their structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, and distribution. Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) offers the first two years of biology courses and courses in other disciplines such as chemistry, mathematics and physics for students who want to major or minor in biology for a baccalaureate program.

The two-year program listed below is designed to meet the requirements of Associate of Science to be completed and prepare students for Bachelor of Science/Art in Biology from regional public and private institutions. Students interested in transferring to four-year college or university after GTCC should consult with the institution they will be attending, their faculty, and/or GTCC Student Success Center to ensure transfer of the appropriate courses for that institution for both General Education or pre-major electives.

Upon successful completion of this degree, graduates will be able to:

¹ Students should choose either COM 120 or COM 231 and one of the following : ART 111 , ART 114 , ART 115 , DRA 111 , ENG 231 , ENG 232 , ENG 241 , ENG 242 , MUS 110 , MUS 112 , PHI 215 , PHI 240 .

²Students should choose two courses from two different disciplines from the following: HIS 111 , HIS 112 , HIS 131 , HIS 132 , ECO 251 , ECO 252 , POL 120 , PSY 150 or SOC 210 .

³Students transferring to UNCG or ASU will take BIO 111 and BIO 112 in the first two semesters and CHM 151 and CHM 152 in teh second two semesters.
